Lampeter fishery (Beat 4)

Trout fishing two miles below Lampeter Bridge

This is one of our most scenic stretches, with ranunculus beds and a fine range of bankside trees and plants. It is almost entirely double-bank fishing.

The beat includes several famous and productive salmon and sea trout pools including Pwll Sowldiwr, Pwll Bili, Pwll Beili-goch and Pwll Felinfach. In all, this fishery extends over a total of eight miles of river bank.

In dry seasons, the Lampeter beat tends to be good for brown trout in early season and better for sewin from July onwards. Spring salmon run up through Lampeter on their way to their summer resting places in Gors Coch, near Tregaron, and they can provide the occasional surprise to people fishing nymphs or wet flies for trout. Otherwise, salmon fishing is best on this beat during September and October.

The banks are generally fairly clear; however, to arrest erosion we have planted trees and put up protective fencing along some parts, and they are now maturing well and providing rich marginal habitat for birds and other wildlife.

Statistics
Beat 4, comprising some four miles of double-bank fishing on the Teifi at Lampeter, became part of Llandysul A A waters when Lampeter A A joined with our club in April 1970.

Access and parking
The top end of the beat can be accessed via the gate on the left bank at Lampeter Bridge (Pont Steffan). On the right bank there is an access path from Cae Dash, where cars may be parked in the club's own car park.

The lower end of the fishery is accessible from the left bank at Felinfach, where the club has a car park. Members are requested not to use the Felinfach private drive, and to close farm gates when crossing the fields. This access point also serves Beat 5, our Cefn-bryn fishery, which adjoins the lower limit of the Lampeter fishery on its left bank.
