Fishing the run in to the bridge pool

This is an ideal stretch for anyone who enjoys flyfishing but really needs a clear back cast. Over most of this beat the bank is low and clear of trees.

The run in to the pool just above the bridge can be very productive for sea trout at dusk.

The banks are clear and casting a fly is very easy

All through the year, salmon rest in the streamy water on the Dol Watts fishery after the hard work of ascending Alltcafan Gorge, below the road bridge.

In low water, fishing from the bank or in thigh waders is practicable.

Statistics
Beat 14, comprising half a mile of single bank fishing on the right (Ceredigion) bank of the Teifi at Doll Watts, near Pentrecwrt, was purchased in April 1988.

Access and parking

Access point: Alltcafan Bridge

Access stile: lower beat limit

There is parking near Alltcafan Bridge, and it is possible to reach the lower end of this fishery via a steep bank and stile on the right bank at the upstream side of the bridge. At the lower access stile, tubing over the barbed wire protects clothing and waders; please do not cross fences at any other locations as this can damage fences and lead to livestock straying and destroying crops.

A much easier, and only slightly longer, route is via the lane running parallel to the river on the right bank (using the same access point as above) and then down through the thicket via a signed path. This takes you to the river near the upper limit of the beat.

Our fishing starts at the road bridge and includes 1/2 mile of right bank upstream of the bridge.

The upper limit of our waters is denoted by an orange sign on a tree near the remains of the old railway bridge.

For a short distance at the top of this beat there is overlap between the (right bank) Dol Watts fishery and our Tan-y-Coed fishery on the left bank of the river. With care, crossing the river at this point is possible in low water conditions.
