River Teifi: Information and Advice for Members and Visitors

There is a wealth of information available to members and visitors about the River Teifi, its fisheries and recommended fishing techniques. We have included a lot of essential information, maps and fishing tips on this website - see the tabs on the navigation bar above for guidance on such matters as Fly Hatches (and suitable imitative artificial flies), Trout Fishing Tackle and Tactics, Salmon Fishing Tackle and Tactics, Sea Trout (sewin) Tackle and Tactics, and a guide to safe angling on the river.

If you require more detailed information on any matters relating to fishing on Llandysul Angling Association's 30 miles of the River Teifi, we recommend the following:

A Welcome Day talk in progress
Welcome Days include talks about fishing the River Teifi

Join us at one of our Welcome Days, which are held each spring at The Porth Hotel. Full details of the next Welcome Day event are always available in our latest Newsletter as an Adobe PDF...

Attendance at Welcome Day events is free of charge to members and non-members alike, and full details are included in our e-brochure which is available as a download via the sidebar on every page of this website.

Apart from an introductory talk about the fisheries, fishing techniques and tactics for the Teifi, there is also a brief illustrated presentation about the wildlife of our river. Also while still at the Porth Hotel we hold a Question and Answer session - a Fishermen's Forum, as it has come to be known - before a light lunch in the hotel.

Then it is down to the river where professional flyfishing instructor Sue Parker demonstrates a range of salmon casting and fishing techniques for the Teifi; this is followed by a Trout and Sea Trout casting and fishing demonstration by Pat O'Reilly.

Welcome Day: Sue Parker demonstrating Spey Casting

The main event of the afternoon is a guided tour of several of our fishing beats, with the opportunity to question local experienced anglers on trout, sea trout and salmon lies, flies, tackle, techniques and tactics - or anything else that could help you to get to know our river and enjoy successful fishing here in the Teifi Valley.

We have been putting on Welcome Day events for more than ten years, and new members, day and week ticket holders and non-members have all told us how much the programme of events is appreciated. From participants' feedback we have fine tuned the programme, but we are always keen to receive suggestions for further improvements.

If you have an idea that could help you and other people to get even more out of your visits to the Teifi Valley, we would be delighted to hear from you. See our Contact Us page for details of how to get in touch with the Chairman, Secretary and Committee of Llandysul Angling Association, or simply use this link to Email the Club Secretary...
